With a Spirit of Collaboration and Community Service, the Dean of FKG USK Promotes Oral Health Education at Media Kasih Putra Islamic Orphanage

Banda Aceh, July 19, 2026 — Following her inauguration earlier this week, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKG USK), Dr. drg. Zulfan Alibasyah, Sp.Perio., carried out a community service program at Media Kasih Putra Islamic Orphanage in Banda Aceh. The program was organized through LDF SIMETRIS, the Faculty Da’wah Organization under the supervision of the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships, drg. Sri Rezeki, Sp.PM.

Carrying the theme “From Ummah, For Ummah: Spreading Kindness, Attaining Blessings,” the program featured a series of activities, including oral health education using a dental phantom model, the distribution of educational posters on proper oral hygiene practices, the presentation of charitable donations and aid, and a collective prayer as an expression of care and solidarity with the children of the orphanage.

The oral health education session was delivered by Fauzan Azhim, S.KG., representing a collaborative initiative between undergraduate and professional dental students. The educational session, entitled “Following the Sunnah, Smiling with Blessings: Oral Health Education from an Islamic Perspective,” integrated dental science with Islamic values to promote healthy oral hygiene habits among children. The educational poster, titled “The Smile Project: Islamic Oral Health Education – Caring for Your Teeth, Following the Sunnah,” presented simple, engaging, and child-friendly messages. The session emphasized that maintaining good oral health is an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT, introduced the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding oral hygiene, and encouraged children to distinguish between tooth-friendly foods and foods that may harm their teeth. The children also learned the principles of maintaining a healthy smile, including brushing their teeth twice a day, limiting sugary foods and beverages, consuming nutritious meals and sufficient water, and visiting the dentist regularly for routine dental check-ups.

In her remarks,  Dr. drg. Zulfan Alibasyah, Sp.Perio. expressed her sincere appreciation to the management of Media Kasih Putra Islamic Orphanage for their warm hospitality, support, and cooperation in facilitating the program. She also extended her gratitude to LDF SIMETRIS FKG USK and the entire organizing committee for successfully conducting ENAMEL 2026. She expressed her hope that the program would not only bring happiness through charitable assistance and donations but also provide valuable knowledge and motivation that the children can apply in their daily lives. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of ENAMEL 2026, Ari Ramadani, stated that the program was expected to create a meaningful and lasting impact on both the community and the children of Media Kasih Putra Islamic Orphanage. He also expressed his hope that the event would serve not only as an opportunity to share kindness but also as a source of encouragement, inspiring the children to continue learning, pursuing their dreams, and maintaining good oral health, in line with Universitas Syiah Kuala’s commitment to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which promotes inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.

Through this initiative, LDF SIMETRIS FKG USK hopes that the presence of university students will create sustainable benefits for the community, particularly for the children of Media Kasih Putra Islamic Orphanage. This community service program also serves as an opportunity to strengthen students’ commitment to community engagement while providing practical solutions to societal needs through the integration of dental knowledge and Islamic values in everyday life.
