Students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKG USK), organized Dentistry Care x Akhwat Care at SOS Children’s Village Banda Aceh as an initiative to promote oral health education and raise awareness of the importance of dental and oral health among children.
Carrying the theme “One Habit Away from a Healthier Smile,” the program was attended by 26 children from SOS Children’s Village. It aimed to instill the importance of maintaining oral health from an early age and encourage children to develop healthy habits in their daily lives.
The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships of FKG USK, drh. Abdillah Imron Nasution, M.Si., Ph.D. His presence reflected the faculty’s support for student-led educational initiatives and community service activities. The event continued with an oral health education session delivered by Salwa Fitria Harahap, S.K.G., and drg. Cut Fera Novita, M.Kes.
Before the educational session began, participants completed questionnaires to assess their existing knowledge and habits related to oral health. The speakers then presented educational materials, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. This allowed participants to ask questions directly and gain a better understanding of the information provided.
To support the application of the materials in everyday life, participants also received pocketbooks containing information about dental and oral health. These pocketbooks are expected to serve as practical guides for children as they begin to establish and maintain healthy oral care habits consistently.
Beyond the initial educational session, the organizing committee plans to conduct a follow-up visit after 21 days to evaluate changes in participants’ knowledge and oral health habits. This evaluation is intended to assess the extent to which the educational intervention contributes to positive changes and supports the development of sustainable oral health practices among the children.
Through Dentistry Care x Akhwat Care 2026, FKG USK students hope to strengthen children’s awareness of the importance of maintaining dental and oral health while encouraging the development of positive, long-term habits. In line with the theme “One Habit Away from a Healthier Smile,” a healthier smile can begin with one good habit practiced every day.
