As Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) commemorates its 65th Anniversary, the University continues to strengthen its commitment to community engagement through meaningful student-led initiatives. One such initiative is AKSI KANINUS 16, a community service program organized by the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) USK. On Thursday, September 17, 2026, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Entrepreneurship of USK, Dr. Rina Suryani Oktari, S.Kep., M.Si., FRSPH., officially sent off 201 students who will take part in the program.
The send-off marked the beginning of the students’ community service activities in Montasik District, Aceh Besar Regency, scheduled for September 18–19, 2026. During the two-day program, FKG USK students will provide dental and oral health services and engage in a range of social service activities aimed at addressing community needs and promoting greater awareness of oral health.
AKSI KANINUS 16 embodies the spirit of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi), particularly the commitment to community service. Beyond providing students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through their academic training, the program serves as a platform for students to develop social responsibility, collaboration, and direct engagement with the community.
The program also carries special significance as part of USK’s 65th Anniversary celebrations. For more than six decades, USK has continued to advance its role as an institution of higher education that contributes to society through education, research, and community service. Through AKSI KANINUS 16, this commitment is reflected in the active involvement of students in delivering tangible benefits to communities beyond the university campus.
The send-off ceremony featured two symbolic proceedings. During the indoor ceremony, name badges were presented to representatives of the committee, symbolizing the responsibility, trust, and commitment entrusted to the students as they prepared to serve in the field. The ceremony continued outdoors with the release of balloons, symbolizing the official commencement of their journey to bring the spirit of health, compassion, and service to the community.
The preparation and implementation of AKSI KANINUS 16 are conducted under the guidance and supervision of drh. Abdillah Imron Nasution, M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships of FKG USK. His involvement includes providing direction and monitoring the committee’s readiness to ensure that the program is carried out in a coordinated, orderly, and responsible manner.
In her remarks, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Entrepreneurship of USK, Dr. Rina Suryani Oktari, S.Kep., M.Si., FRSPH., emphasized the importance of maintaining solidarity and a strong sense of togetherness throughout the program.
“I hope that this spirit of togetherness and teamwork will be maintained not only during this send-off ceremony, but throughout the entire community service program in the field, so that AKSI KANINUS 16 can be successfully implemented and create a positive impact for the community,” she said.
The send-off was also marked by messages from university and faculty leaders, as well as student representatives, highlighting the values and responsibilities that accompany the students’ participation in the program.
The Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Entrepreneurship encouraged the students to uphold the reputation of their institution while carrying out their responsibilities in the community.
“Congratulations and best wishes to all committee members. Uphold the good name of USK and provide meaningful service that benefits the community.”
Dean of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Zulfan M. Alibasyah, Sp.Perio., emphasized that the knowledge students acquire through their education should be translated into responsible and measurable practice.
“What we learn must be implemented through consistent, well-documented practices and continuously evaluated,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, President of the Student Executive Board of FKG USK (BEM FKG USK), M. Alif Dhiya’ulhaq, described AKSI KANINUS 16 as a concrete expression of students’ commitment to serving society.
“AKSI KANINUS 16 is a tangible form of student service to the community. Let us maintain our solidarity and togetherness until every part of the program is successfully completed,” he said.
Chairperson of the AKSI KANINUS 16 Committee, Abdi Reda Wira Pratama, further highlighted the importance of coordination and a shared understanding among all committee members, particularly in maintaining the quality and safety of services provided in the field.
“A shared understanding is essential to ensuring the quality and safety of our services throughout the community service program,” he stated.
Following the official send-off, the 201 students of AKSI KANINUS 16 FKG USK 2026 are set to carry out their community service activities in Montasik District. Guided by the theme “Bakti Geutanyoe, Seunyum Keu Nanggroe,” the program is expected to become more than an opportunity for students to apply their dental knowledge and competencies. It is also a reflection of their commitment to serving society and contributing to improved community well-being.
As USK celebrates its 65th Anniversary, AKSI KANINUS 16 represents the University’s continuing commitment to nurturing students who are not only academically capable, but also socially responsible and prepared to contribute to society.
