The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) officially concluded the 16th Humanitarian Action of Dental Students (AKSI KANINUS) at the Montasik District Hall, Aceh Besar, on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Carrying the theme “Bakti Geutanyoe, Seunyum keu Nanggroe,” the event was part of the 65th Anniversary celebration of Universitas Syiah Kuala and represented FKG USK students’ commitment to community service and dental health care.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Governor of Aceh, represented by the Head of the Aceh Provincial Health Office; the Dean of FKG USK and Vice Deans; the Commander of Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base; representatives of the Indonesian Army and Police; representatives of Aceh Provincial Government Agencies and Aceh Besar Regency Government Agencies; as well as leaders of health institutions, professional organizations, schools, district and village administrations, community health centers, community leaders, partners, students, committee members, and members of the community who supported the 16th AKSI KANINUS.
Throughout its implementation, the 16th AKSI KANINUS featured a range of health education, health care, social activities, and interactive programs for the community. The activities were carried out by FKG USK students in collaboration with various partners across Montasik District and surrounding areas.
In schools, students conducted Dental Health Education sessions accompanied by mass tooth-brushing activities for elementary school students. The educational programs also addressed Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) and included the distribution of supplementary food. A number of educational competitions were also organized to deliver health messages through engaging activities that were appropriate for the students’ age groups.
In addition to educational activities, the 16th AKSI KANINUS provided health services for the community. Through medical check-ups, residents received examinations for blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels. A blood donation drive was also held as part of the students’ efforts to contribute to community health needs.
The students also continued their service through home visits to residents’ homes. During these visits, they conducted oral and dental health examinations and provided education on oral health conditions and appropriate preventive measures. This approach enabled students to interact directly with residents while gaining a better understanding of health conditions within the community.
One of the main programs of the 16th AKSI KANINUS was free dental and oral health care. The services included dental examinations, fillings, and extractions according to clinical indications for both pediatric and adult patients. Throughout the program, approximately 680 patients received dental treatment.
Beyond health services, residents were also able to participate in supporting activities, including a low-cost bazaar and food corner. These activities complemented the interaction between students and the community, making AKSI KANINUS not only a platform for health services but also an opportunity to build meaningful communication and closer relationships with local residents.
In his remarks, Dean of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Zulfan M. Alibasyah, Sp.Perio, expressed his appreciation to all parties who contributed to the successful implementation of the 16th AKSI KANINUS. He emphasized that the experiences gained by students through direct engagement with the community would contribute to the development of future dentists who possess not only professional competence but also a strong sense of social responsibility.
“AKSI KANINUS is not merely a student activity. It provides students with an opportunity to learn how to be present within the community, collaborate with various stakeholders, and apply the knowledge they have acquired throughout their education,” he said.
Following the closing ceremony, the Dean of FKG USK officially concluded the 16th AKSI KANINUS. The event continued with the presentation of appreciation plaques to various institutions and partners that contributed to the success of the program.
In the first session, appreciation plaques were presented by the Dean of FKG USK to representatives of the Aceh Provincial Government, Aceh Besar Regency Government, Aceh Besar Police Department, Kodim 0101/Kota Banda Aceh, Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base, Aceh Besar District Health Office, and Aceh Besar District Education Office.
In the second session, Vice Dean I of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Dewi Saputri, Sp.Perio, presented plaques to representatives of the Montasik Community Health Center, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Banda Aceh, SMA Negeri 1 Montasik, and MAN 2 Aceh Besar.
In the third session, Dr. Vera Yulina, Sp.KGA, representing the Director of USK Dental Hospital (RSGM USK), presented plaques to representatives of Montasik District, Lampaseh Lhok Village, Lampaseh Krueng Village, and Baroh Village.
The presentation of appreciation plaques served as a gesture of gratitude for the involvement and support of various stakeholders, particularly government institutions, health institutions, educational institutions, regional authorities, and community members who contributed to the implementation of the 16th AKSI KANINUS.
With the conclusion of the 16th AKSI KANINUS, FKG USK hopes that the partnerships established through the program will continue to grow. The experiences gained through direct engagement with the community are also expected to serve as valuable foundations for students in developing their professional skills, social responsibility, and commitment to community service as future dentists.
Through the 16th AKSI KANINUS, FKG USK continues to strengthen its commitment to integrating education, health services, and community engagement with the needs of society. The collaboration established in Aceh Besar is expected to provide a foundation for continued contributions to improving oral and dental health in the community in the years ahead.
