The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) held its 2026 Islamic Orientation (ORIS) program on Friday (October 23, 2026). The three-day event serves as a continuation of the Pre-Islamic Orientation (Pra ORIS) program previously conducted for FKG USK’s incoming class of 2026.
ORIS is an orientation program aimed at deepening students’ understanding of Islamic values and fostering character development based on Islamic teachings in both academic and social life. Through this program, students are expected to strengthen their understanding of Islam as a foundation for navigating university life at FKG USK.
The ORIS 2026 program began with an opening ceremony on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. WIB. The ceremony was attended by invited guests, including representatives from the Technical Implementation Unit of the Center for Character Development and Empowerment (UPT PAPK), the Dean of FKG USK, and representatives from the Islamic Religious Assistance and Development Program Implementation Unit (UP3AI). Their presence reflected institutional support for Islamic character development among new students within the university.
ORIS 2026 was officially opened by the Dean of FKG USK through a symbolic ceremony representing the journey of the 13th ORIS (ORIS XIII) at FKG USK. The procession depicted a journey beginning in Iraq, continuing to Egypt, and culminating in Hattin, marked by the placement of a symbolic marker as part of the opening ceremony. This procession signified the beginning of the ORIS XIII journey and officially marked the commencement of the three-day program.
The implementation of ORIS represents the next stage of Pra ORIS, which previously introduced new students to fundamental Islamic values and the importance of character development. While Pra ORIS served as an initial introduction, ORIS provides students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding through a series of activities designed to strengthen Islamic values, togetherness, and their sense of responsibility as university students.
Throughout the three-day program, new students are expected to actively participate in each activity and gain meaningful experiences that contribute to their character development. The program also provides opportunities for students to build relationships with their peers, foster a sense of unity, and become more familiar with the Islamic culture that forms part of campus life.
The character development provided through ORIS focuses not only on understanding Islamic teachings but also on instilling moral values, integrity, and compassion for others. These values are expected to be applied in everyday life, including throughout their education as future healthcare professionals who will eventually carry responsibilities toward society.
Through the implementation of the 13th Islamic Orientation Program (ORIS XIII) at FKG USK in 2026, new students are expected to embrace Islamic values as guiding principles in their academic and social lives. This program also reflects FKG USK’s commitment to nurturing a generation of students who excel not only in knowledge and professional skills but also demonstrate strong Islamic character, integrity, and compassion for others.
