The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKG USK), officially opened the Clinical Clerkship Enrichment Training for New Students of the Dental Professional Study Program for the Odd Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year on Monday, August 31, 2026. The opening ceremony was held at the 2nd Floor Hall of the Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) of Universitas Syiah Kuala.
This enrichment training is a preparatory program for new students of the Dental Professional Study Program who will enter the clinical clerkship stage. A total of 13 prospective young dentists who have completed their undergraduate education and participated in the graduation assessment are taking part in this activity as preparation before undergoing professional education at RSGM USK.
The five-day training, held from August 31 to September 4, 2026, is designed to strengthen students’ knowledge, clinical skills, as well as their understanding of ethics and professionalism. The materials cover various clinical disciplines, including Periodontology, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Conservative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Radiology, as well as Community and Preventive Dentistry.
The activity was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Dr. drg. Zulfan Alibasyah, Sp.Perio. In his remarks, the Dean stated that entering professional education is an important stage in the journey toward becoming a dentist.
According to him, professional education not only requires students to have strong academic knowledge and clinical skills, but also requires them to develop the character of healthcare professionals who uphold good manners, ethics, integrity, discipline, effective communication, and responsibility toward patients.
“Entering professional education is an important stage in the journey toward becoming a dentist. At this stage, you are not only required to have academic knowledge and clinical skills, but you must also demonstrate good manners, ethics, integrity, discipline, effective communication, and a sense of responsibility toward your patients,” said the Dean of FKG USK.
Furthermore, the Dean emphasized the importance of humanitarian values in every healthcare service. Students are expected not only to view RSGM USK as a place to develop clinical skills, but also as a space to build character and professionalism as future dentists.
“Every patient we serve is a human being whom we must respect and treat as well as possible. Therefore, make this hospital not only a place to learn clinical skills, but also a place to develop the character and professionalism of a dentist,” he said.
On the occasion, the Dean also reminded students to always uphold the values that serve as principles throughout their education at FKG USK:
“Manners above knowledge, integrity above achievement, and meaningful contribution above self-interest.”
These values are expected to serve as a foundation for students throughout their professional education and in their interactions with patients, supervisors, other healthcare professionals, and the academic environment.
The Clinical Clerkship Enrichment Training provides preparation in various clinical disciplines. The materials are delivered not only through theoretical sessions, but also through hands-on activities and practical training.
Through this activity, students are expected to be better prepared before entering the clinical clerkship rotation system in various departments. The training also serves as a platform to establish a shared understanding and strengthen the basic competencies of prospective young dentists in facing various challenges throughout their professional education.
The Dean of FKG USK also expressed his appreciation to all lecturers, supervisors, and academic staff who have contributed to preparing and accompanying students throughout their professional education.
To the new professional program students, the Dean encouraged them to participate in the entire series of activities seriously, uphold the reputation of their alma mater, respect patients and supervisors, maintain discipline throughout the educational process, and continuously develop a strong spirit of learning.
“This training is expected to serve as a valuable foundation for all of you to enter clinical clerkship with greater confidence, better preparation, and a stronger sense of responsibility,” he added.
Through the implementation of this activity, FKG USK hopes that all new students of the Dental Professional Study Program will begin their clinical education journey with strong knowledge, skills, professional attitudes, and integrity. This enrichment training is one of the initial steps in preparing future dentists who are not only clinically competent, but also possess strong character, ethics, and a sense of responsibility in providing the best possible services to the community.
This activity is also part of FKG USK’s efforts to improve the knowledge and skills of prospective young dentists in undergoing professional education at the Dental and Oral Hospital of Universitas Syiah Kuala.
