The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKG USK), successfully conducted the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as part of the National Competency Examination Try Out for Dental Professional Education Students (UKOMNASPPDG) Period III 2026 on Saturday, July 26, 2026, at the FKG USK campus.
The OSCE marked the second stage of the two-day examination series and served as a comprehensive assessment of students’ readiness to undertake the official National Competency Examination. Unlike the Computer-Based Test (CBT), the OSCE focused on evaluating participants’ clinical competence through hands-on performance in a structured and standardized examination environment.
Throughout the examination, participants rotated through a series of clinical stations designed to simulate real-life patient care scenarios. Each station assessed essential competencies, including clinical procedures, diagnostic reasoning, communication skills, professionalism, and adherence to patient safety principles. The objective assessment allowed examiners to evaluate each participant consistently based on nationally established competency standards.
The examination was carried out in an orderly and professional manner with the support of faculty members, examiners, standardized patients, and organizing committees, ensuring that every stage of the OSCE complied with national examination protocols.
Prior to the examination, participants received intensive clinical coaching and practical guidance from supervising lecturers across various disciplines. These preparatory sessions were designed to strengthen students’ clinical skills, improve critical thinking, and familiarize them with the OSCE format and assessment criteria.
Through the implementation of this OSCE Try Out, FKG USK reaffirms its commitment to producing competent, professional, and practice-ready future dentists. The activity also provides valuable feedback for students to identify areas for improvement, enhance their clinical confidence, and optimize their preparation before sitting for the official UKOMNASPPDG.
