The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has begun establishing a new leadership foundation for the next five years. Following the appointment of Dr. drg. Zulfan M. Alibasyah, Sp.Perio as Dean of FKG USK for the 2026–2031 term, the Rector of USK officially inaugurated three Vice Deans who will serve as key drivers of academic transformation, institutional governance, student development, and strategic partnerships.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, 6 August 2026, in Banda Aceh, marked an important step in strengthening the Faculty’s organizational structure in response to the increasingly competitive landscape of higher education. Amid the rapidly evolving academic environment, FKG USK aims to enhance educational quality, establish professional governance, and expand national and international collaborations as part of its commitment to realizing the vision of becoming an “Excellent, Innovative Dentopreneur with ASEAN Impact.”
The newly appointed Vice Deans are Dr. drg. Dewi Saputri, Sp.Perio as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs; Ir. Subhaini, S.Si., M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. as Vice Dean for Human Resources and Finance; and drh. Abdillah Imron Nasution, M.Si., Ph.D. as Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships.
In his remarks, the Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala emphasized that the new leadership is expected not only to carry out administrative responsibilities but also to deliver measurable progress through the achievement of the University’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). According to the Rector, the success of a faculty is strongly influenced by the quality of academic services, effective resource management, transparent and accountable financial governance, and the ability to foster a collaborative working culture.
The Rector also underscored the importance of placing students at the center of academic services. Therefore, improving the quality of teaching and learning, strengthening research, enhancing support for academic and administrative staff, and ensuring efficient budget management must go hand in hand to achieve the University’s performance targets optimally.
Dean of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Zulfan M. Alibasyah, Sp.Perio, described the appointment as a strategic step toward building strong synergy among the Faculty’s leaders to accelerate various priority programs.
“With this solid leadership structure, we are optimistic that FKG USK will move forward more rapidly in realizing our vision of becoming an Excellent, Innovative Dentopreneur with ASEAN Impact,” said Dr. Zulfan.
According to Dr. Zulfan, each Vice Dean has an important and complementary role. Academic Affairs will focus on enhancing educational quality and learning innovation; Human Resources and Finance will strengthen professional and sustainable governance; while Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships will expand collaborations and promote student achievements and alumni networks at the international level.
The vision of becoming an “Excellent, Innovative Dentopreneur with ASEAN Impact” serves as the new direction for the development of FKG USK. This vision emphasizes the cultivation of dentists who are not only excellent in academic and clinical competencies but also possess innovative thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to create solutions that provide tangible benefits to society.
The appointment of the three Vice Deans also marks the beginning of the 100-Day Action Plan of FKG USK’s new leadership. Several priority programs have been prepared, including accelerating the achievement of Key Performance Indicators, improving the quality of human resources, strengthening institutional governance systems, optimizing academic services, and expanding strategic partnerships with universities, hospitals, industries, and partner institutions both nationally and internationally.
With its leadership team now fully established, FKG USK is confident in accelerating its institutional transformation toward becoming a leading faculty of dentistry that is adaptive to advances in science and technology and highly competitive within the ASEAN region. Strong synergy among leaders, faculty members, administrative staff, students, alumni, and partners is expected to become the key foundation for realizing this aspiration.
