Upskilling, Reskilling, and Hands-On Sterilization and Cross-Infection Prevention Training

Monday, October 27, 2025, Darussalam The Faculty of Dentistry at Syiah Kuala University held an Upskilling, Reskilling, and Hands-On Sterilization Training and Cross-Infection Prevention in Dental Practice. This training aims to enhance the understanding and skills of undergraduate dental students and dental assistants in applying sterilization principles and preventing cross-infection in the dental hospital environment.

The training was attended by undergraduate students, co-as students (Dental Doctor Professional Program), educators, and educational staff from the Faculty of Dentistry, Syiah Kuala University. Participants gained knowledge about the basic principles of sterilization, disinfection, and cross-infection control. In addition, participants were also given material on how to apply the use of chemical and biological indicators in evaluating the effectiveness of sterilization. During this activity, an Implementation Arrangement (IA) was also signed between the Faculty of Dentistry, Syiah Kuala University and the Indonesian Central Sterilization Practitioners Association (Aceh).

The training was held for one day and was divided into two sessions, namely interactive theory presentation and hands-on practice. The interactive theory presentation explained the principles of infection prevention, equipment classification, and sterilization standards, while the hands-on practice involved simulations of washing, wrapping, sterilization, and indicator reading. This training was highly beneficial for participants as it enhanced their knowledge and skills in sterilization and cross-infection prevention. Additionally, it is hoped that this training will improve the quality of services and compliance with the accreditation standards of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Syiah Kuala University Dental Hospital.
