The PKM-KC team from Syiah Kuala University won a gold medal at the 36th PIMNAS event held at Padjadjaran University, West Java. This PKM-KC is a collaboration between students from three faculties, namely Zarfan Fawwaz and Teuku Fais Duta (Medical Education), Sherina (Dental Education), and Irmayani and Muhammad Iqbal (Electrical Engineering), supervised by Dr. dr. Budi Yanti, Sp.P(K).
The team successfully created EMERALD (Endoscopic Oral Mucosal Recognition Smoker Lung Damage). EMERALD is a device designed to detect chronic obstructive pulmonary disease using endoscopic mucosal recognition in the oral cavity of smokers, integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT). This functional detector has been tested on various patients with a history of smoking and those suffering from COPD, yielding good diagnostic results.
The PKM-KC proposal was initially drafted in February 2023 and successfully secured funding in June 2023. The detector was then designed and tested until November 2023, when the PKM-KC team was deemed eligible to participate in the PIMNAS finals and successfully won gold.
