Syiah Kuala University (USK) students won second place in the National Dental Radiology Olympiad in Jakarta. The Indonesian Olympiad of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (IODR) is the largest national-level radiology competition aimed at assessing the competencies of undergraduate (pre-clinical) and professional education (co-ass) dental students in the field of Dental Radiology. The IODR was held from July 11-13th 2024, in Jakarta, in conjunction with the 11th National Symposium of the Indonesian Association of Dental Radiology (IKARGI).
The competition began with a preliminary round involving 19 university teams from across Indonesia. In this round, the USK FKG team was in Group A, successfully defeating teams from UI 1, UNPAD 1, and UNPAD 2, thereby advancing to the Semifinals. In the Semifinals, USK FKG defeated teams from UNSOED and UGM 1. USK FKG advanced to the finals and competed to secure the runner-up position.
This activity was participated in by three Dental students, namely Deffan Derrico, S.K.G, Sherina, S.K.G, and Nesha Deanna Nathania. The team was intensively guided by drg. Nova Rosdiana, Sp.RKG. Subs. R. P (K). The material studied included insights related to dental radiology, such as basic radiology and X-ray theory, intraoral and extraoral radiography techniques, film processing & quality assurance, anatomy, radiograph interpretation, radiodiagnosis of inflammatory diseases, cysts, tumors, malignancies, trauma, and dental anomalies.
“Congratulations to the FKG USK students for their outstanding achievements in the largest national radiology competition. This shows that FKG USK students have the ability and competitiveness in reasoning at the national level. Hopefully, this will motivate other students to excel,” said the Dean of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Cut Soraya, M.Pd, Sp.KG.
