Aceh Besar – The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) continues its 2026 Community Development Program through a health education activity entitled “Healthy Children, Brighter Futures: Preventing Stunting and Dental Caries.” The activity featured drg. Ayudia Rifki, Sp.KGA, as the speaker, who provided education on the importance of oral and dental health in supporting children’s growth and development.
In her presentation, drg. Ayudia Rifki, Sp.KGA., explained the relationship between stunting and dental caries. Dental caries can cause pain, making it difficult for children to chew and eat, which may result in reduced nutritional intake. On the other hand, chronic nutritional deficiencies can also affect the growth and development of children’s teeth.
Participants were also educated on simple steps to maintain children’s oral health, including brushing their teeth twice a day, using age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste, limiting the consumption of sugary foods and drinks, maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet, and having regular dental check-ups every 3–6 months.
This activity also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by increasing public awareness of children’s health and nutrition, as well as Goal 4: Quality Education, through the provision of health education to the community.
Local health cadres and the community health center (puskesmas) also welcomed the implementation of this activity. The educational session was considered beneficial in increasing parents’ knowledge of the importance of oral health, adequate nutrition, and stunting prevention in children. The community responded positively and enthusiastically, actively participating in both the presentation and the activities throughout the session.
Through this initiative, FKG USK continues to promote public awareness that oral health and adequate nutrition are essential components in supporting children’s growth and development. Together, let us build a healthier future by raising children who are free from stunting and have healthy teeth for a brighter future.
