FKG USK Team Wins Gold Medal and Special Award in Croatia

The Faculty of Dentistry at Syiah Kuala University (FKG USK) successfully brought home a gold medal and a special award from Canada and Romania at the 48th Inova International Invention Show and Competition.

The competition was held at the Zagreb Fair in Zagreb, Croatia, from October 16-20th 2024, organized by the World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA).

This event is the largest and oldest product innovation research competition and expo in Europe. FKG USK team successfully passed the abstract selection, which involved over 4,000 participants from various countries. The finalists then progressed to the Final Pitch and Exhibitor stage from October 16-20th 2024.

The Final Pitch activity involved presentations in front of a judging panel, as well as opening an expo stand to showcase their work.

FKG USK was represented by the BISCATUR team, which successfully brought home a Gold Medal and Special Award from the Toronto International Society of Innovation and Advanced Skills, Canada, as well as the National Institute of Research and Development for Optoelectronics from Romania.

BISCATUR is an innovative product of biscuits made from egg shells to prevent stunting and osteoporosis.

The BISCATUR team consists of Galuh Satwika Paramita, Deffan Dericco, Mohd. Fakhriza Naufal, and Diva Maulana, who are students from FKG USK, along with one student from the Faculty of Economics, Muhammad Raiyan Fajri.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support and guidance of the supervising lecturers, including drg. Teuku Ahmad Arbi, Sp.BMM, Subsp IDM (K), drg. Sri Rezeki, Sp. PM, Fitrah Afandi, S.E, M.Si, dr. Nurjannah, M.Ph, PHD, Sp. KKLP, and Ir. Sarika Zuhri, S.T, M.T.

During the event in Croatia, the Biscateam was directly accompanied by drg. Sri Rezeki Sp.PM, who is the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships at FKG USK and also their supervising lecturer.

Regarding this achievement, the Dean of FKG USK, Dr. drg. Cut Soraya, M.Pd, Sp.KG, expressed her gratitude and joy, noting that this success was a result of the team’s hard work.

“With this achievement, we hope to inspire creativity and innovation among all students at USK, especially in FKG, to continue contributing to achievements on an international scale,” said Dr. drg. Cut Soraya.

This competition is held annually to foster collaboration between inventors in Croatia and internationally.

The exhibition is categorized into two groups: Invention and Innovation for Social and Quality of Life, with subcategories in Medicine and Public Health, Environmental Protection, Energy, and Education; and Invention and Innovation for Industry, with subcategories in Food, Cosmetics, Modern Agriculture, Robotics, Electronics, and Automation.

“INOVA 2024 is one of the prestigious international competitions, participated by a total of 213 research teams from 25 countries worldwide. We are grateful to elevate the name of USK, Aceh, and Indonesia,” said Deffan.
