Research Laboratory

The Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Syiah Kuala is an integral part of the efforts to advance education and research in dentistry. Established in 2015, this laboratory has become a leading center that supports student thesis research and facilitates faculty research aimed at expanding knowledge in dental sciences. To strengthen interdisciplinary academic development, the laboratory is crucial in providing research services, both internally within the university and externally.

Our laboratory has advanced facilities, including ELISA, PCR and RT-PCR, Endophoto, and microscopes. To enhance the quality of research outcomes, we have established networks with various other laboratories within Universitas Syiah Kuala. This collaboration involves using instruments such as SEM, UTM, and AFM at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory and FTIR, DSC, and GCMS at the Chemical Engineering Laboratory. Additionally, we collaborate with the Chemistry Laboratory at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education for research involving natural material extracts, including UV-Vis spectrophotometers. Partnering with the Veterinary Medicine Laboratory facilitates animal testing and histopathology or immunohistochemistry examinations.

Since its inception, the laboratory has supported over 100 undergraduate theses, 12 master’s theses, and ten doctoral dissertations. Moreover, more than 150 scientific publications have been facilitated by the services we provide. The laboratory can also support research in the fields of Oral Biology and Dental Materials, as well as specialized dental research and other health-related studies.

We remain committed to continuously enhancing the laboratory’s capabilities by acquiring new research equipment supporting cellular and molecular testing. This ongoing innovation and development aim to strengthen further the laboratory’s contribution to advancing science and education in dentistry and the broader field of health sciences.
