Oral Medicine is one of the fields in dentistry that studies soft tissue diseases of the oral cavity. These diseases included bacterial, fungal, and viral infections, deep fungal infection lesions, non-infectious vesiculobulosa lesions, pre-cancerous lesions and hypersensitive reactions or those related to the immune system. In addition, this science is also related to basic dental sciences such as skin and genital diseases, internal medicine, clinical pathology, anatomical pathology, and nutrition. Oral medicine teaches students to be able to make a diagnosis, differential diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan including comprehensive prescription and referral writing. In addition, there are also material discussions and journal reading.
The program study in Oral medicine in the faculty of dentistry are divided into two, namely the preclinic study program and the professional program. The preclinic study program focuses more on the ability of students to analyze cases given through photos and case questions. The professional program focuses on students to analyze certain cases such as normal variation lesions, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, candida infection, and complication lesions such as precancerous lesions and oral cancer in patients directly.
