The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FKG USK), successfully implemented the of the National Dentistry Professional Competency Examination (UKOMNASPPDG) Period III of 2026 through an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). The examination was held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at FKG USK.
The OSCE serves as a critical stage in assessing the readiness of professional dental students for the actual National Dentistry Professional Competency Examination. Unlike theory-based examinations, the OSCE emphasizes participants’ ability to integrate knowledge, clinical skills, communication, and professional decision-making through a series of case-based stations developed in accordance with national competency standards.
During the examination, each participant completed a series of clinical skills stations featuring scenarios designed to simulate real-world clinical practice. The participants were objectively assessed by examiners based on various competency indicators, including procedural accuracy, clinical reasoning, patient communication, the application of patient safety principles, and professional ethics.
The examination was conducted in an orderly manner with the full support of faculty examiners, administrative staff, and the organizing committee. Their involvement ensured that all stages of the examination were carried out in accordance with established OSCE procedures and standards.
Prior to the practical examination, the students received intensive briefings from supervising lecturers in each competency area. These briefings aimed to strengthen their clinical skills and enhance their preparedness in responding to various examination scenarios.
Through the implementation of this OSCE, FKG USK reaffirms its commitment to preparing competent and professional future dentists who are ready to undertake the National Dentistry Professional Competency Examination. This activity is also expected to serve as an effective evaluation tool, enabling students to identify their strengths and areas for improvement before taking the national examination and, ultimately, helping them achieve optimal results.
